WASHINGTON - As U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced a near trillion-dollar government-run health care bill today, it appears as if she can count on the strong and unequivocal support of U.S. Representative Kendrick Meek (D-FL) - or Meeks, as the President fondly refers to him.

According to today’s Washington Post, "House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) unveiled a health-care reform bill Thursday that includes a government insurance option and a historic expansion of Medicaid, although sticking points in the legislation involving abortion and immigration remain unresolved."

Meek, the Democrat Senate hopeful in Florida, issued a fundraising email in response to today’s news claiming that "a public option is exactly what we need."

"Contrary to Kendrick Meek’s claim, the last thing the people of Florida need is a health care bill that will lead to costlier premiums, higher taxes, and deep cuts in Medicare funding that will hurt Florida seniors," said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokeswoman Amber Wilkerson Marchand.

"While Floridians want meaningful health care reform that will lowers costs, they do not want a government-takeover written behind closed doors that puts Washington bureaucrats between patients and their doctors," Wilkerson Marchand continued. "As Kendrick Meek attempts to convince Floridians that he deserves a job promotion to the U.S. Senate, his support of Speaker Pelosi’s costly health care bill will be a major issue that he will be forced to account for during next year’s campaign."
