A Cincinnati Enquirer editorial today charged “Retread” Ted Strickland with sleepwalking through the Democratic National Convention despite being dealt an easy hand as a longtime Hillary Clinton supporter. Strickland was then chastised for shouting his Thursday morning speech, “likely to counter the ‘low-energy’ tag that has been dogging him.

Meanwhile, Rob Portman scored a hat trick of endorsements this week, including Black Lives Matter of Cuyahoga County. As reported by POLITICO, the endorsement is “an extremely unusual and notable endorsement from a movement that has been more aligned with Democratic politicians.

In addition to the Black Lives Matter endorsement, Rob Portman also secured the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police of Ohio on Tuesday, and the Ohio Conference of Teamsters on Monday. Both of these groups endorsed Retread Ted in both 2006 and 2010.

Local Black Lives Matter group endorses Republican Portman in Ohio Senate bid

Black Lives Matter of Cuyahoga County is announcing Friday that they are backing the Ohio Republican in his Senate reelection bid, an extremely unusual and notable endorsement from a movement that has been more aligned with Democratic politicians.

The group harshly criticized Democratic challenger Ted Strickland’s management of the state’s finances when he was Ohio governor – saying he “managed to destroy Ohio’s budget and deplete its billion-dollar Rainy Day Fund.”

Mixon also sits on the county Democratic Party’s executive committee. The local Black Lives Matter group also praised Portman and how he shepherded a significant anti-opioid measure into law this month.

“Ted Strickland devoted little time to the cause of helping – rather than punishing – addicts,” Mixon argued.
