Washington, D.C. – Since he secured the nomination, political “experts” were setting Herschel Walker up to fail on the debate stage. Well, on Friday night Herschel made sure to silence the doubters.
But don’t take our word for it. Even the press, some of whom don’t hide the fact they dislike Herschel, took note:
Atlanta Journal-Constitution: “Herschel Walker’s debate performance scores points for his campaign”
The Savannah Morning News: “Given the opportunity – and the appropriate prop – Herschel Walker could have justifiably punctuated his walk off the U.S. Senate debate stage Friday night by spiking a football.
Yes, Georgia, your favorite football icon showed political acumen in his first-ever debate showdown. He didn’t ramble. He didn’t get flustered…
He was charming. He was quick-witted. He came across as the more genuine of the candidates: He out-Warnocked Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock.”
Atlanta Journal-Constitution: “…on Friday night, the Herschel Walker who showed up to debate Warnock was prepared, direct, aggressive at times, and, most important, clear. Despite the fact that it was the first debate of his career, Walker made his case that a vote for Warnock is a vote for President Joe Biden. He answered most of the questions asked, and left voters with an understanding of where he stands on issues from abortion to inflation to transgender sports…
His performance Friday night, more than holding his own against a skilled orator like Raphael Warnock and in some cases besting him, likely went a long way to answering those Republicans’ concerns, leaving the contest more of a true toss-up than ever.”
National Review: “Walker had a surprisingly strong debate…he was direct and combative, and scored points against Warnock, especially on abortion. He kept coming back to the point that Warnock left Georgians behind when he went to Washington and voted with Joe Biden 96 percent of the time.
Walker made it easier for skeptical Republicans to vote for him, and made some progress in refocusing the race on Warnock and Biden, which he desperately needs to do. Certainly, any voters just starting to pay attention to the race wouldn’t have tuned in and concluded Walker is some sort of monster.”
Bloomberg: “Republican Senate contender Herschel Walker exceeded expectations in his highly anticipated debate with incumbent Raphael Warnock in Georgia by staying on message and on the attack.”
Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “Herschel Walker came to play on Friday night and Raphael Warnock got rattled. As we head into the final three weeks, momentum is back on Herschel’s side and Republicans are coming home and getting fired up for a win in November.”
