It’s been a long couple of days for Ted Strickland — Both republicans and democrats announced new ad spending against him, a local editorial board called him out for ducking debates, and he was shamed falling short on the fundraising expectations he set.
If there’s anyone saying TGIF this week, it’s Strickland. Here’s why:
“A Democrat in the Ohio Senate called it a ‘mistake’ for the state Democratic Party to endorse Ted Strickland for U.S. Senate in 2016…’I’m not endorsing anyone at this point,’ Sawyer said Friday, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. ‘I’m not making the same mistake as the Ohio Democratic Party.”
“Let’s have debates between P.G. Sittenfeld and Ted Strickland…In this instance, Democratic leaders would do well to see the value.”
“Ted Strickland’s Democratic primary opponent is accusing him of ‘ducking’ debates in the race for Ohio Senate….Now, the editorial board of a local publication is echoing Sittenfeld’s calls, shaming the Ohio Democratic Party for not yet seeing the ‘value’ in sanctioning primary debates.”
“Strickland has been crisscrossing the country, scrambling for campaign cash and trying to tamp down questions about his fundraising prowess.”
“Before launching his campaign, Strickland said he could easily amass a war chest for the Senate race, telling the Enquirer he had raised ‘millions and millions of dollars in my campaigns, both for Congress and for governor.’ So far, he’s raised about $2.6 million and had $1.5 million in the bank at the end of September.”
“New Leadership for Ohio, a group backing Democratic Cincinnati Councilman P.G. Sittenfeld in his long-shot bid for his party’s Senate nomination, reported raising $370,000 in the first two weeks after it launched this fall…The group unveiled a 15-second ad on Friday on its Facebook page…”
“Sen. Rob Portman’s (R-Ohio) campaign will open a new front against former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland (D-Ohio) on Monday, taking aim at Strickland’s record as a member of the House in new digital ads…meant to highlight Strickland’s record in Washington.”
“Strickland, a Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Ohio, has sidestepped the gun control debate, neglecting to explain an apparent flip flop on guns that now has him supporting the expansion of background checks…”
“Sittenfeld has surprised some Democrats by raising $1.2 million — a big number for a little-known candidate — and he had $784,000 at the end of September. Sittenfeld’s allies have also opened a super PAC to back him. Called New Leadership for Ohio…”
