Senator Sherrod Brown has made it clear that he is no friend to the coal industry. And this weekend, Senator Brown is doubling down, bringing one of the leaders of Washington liberals’ war on coal to Ohio for a series of fundraisers.
Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley will be raising campaign cash on Senator Brown’s behalf this weekend, with events in Cleveland and Cincinnati. Merkley made headlines back in May when he vowed to put “every coal electricity generating plant in a museum.” Senator Brown’s embrace of one of the leading figures in the war on coal should come as no surprise, given his long history of supporting radical anti-energy policies like Barack Obama’s disastrous Clean Power Plan. As usual, Senator Brown is more invested in cuddling up to the far-left than protecting Ohio jobs.
“Senator Sherrod Brown has been fighting to put coal miners out of jobs for years, so it’s fitting that an extremist like Senator Merkley would raise money on his behalf,” said NRSC Spokesman Bob Salera. “Senator Brown should tell Ohio workers whether he shares Merkley’s goal of putting coal plants in a museum.”
