WASHINGTON – Six of the eight Senate Democrats who attended today’s meeting with White House staff on tax reform represent states President Trump won in the 2016 election. Now that they’ve discussed the Republican plan, it’s time for the red state Senate Democrats to let folks at home know where they stand. Polls show that 84% of likely voters favor tax relief.
Senators Manchin, Tester, Heitkamp, McCaskill, Donnelly, and Brown were all in attendance at today’s meeting and it’s evident their constituents want comprehensive tax relief. According to a poll released by Definers Public Affairs and WPA Intelligence, hardworking middle-class families from the Senators’ states want their Senator to support President Trump’s tax plan:
- 77% of West Virginians
- 75% of Montanans
- 73% of North Dakotans
- 73% of Missourians
- 68% of Hoosiers
- 67% of Ohioans
“It’s clear that the Republican tax plan has broad nationwide support, especially in the states represented by red state Democrats who met with the White House,” said NRSC Communications Director Katie Martin. “Senate Democrats need to get on board with tax relief to help create a fairer system for all Americans – and folks at home deserve to know whether or not they can count on their Senator.”
