Washington, D.C. – This week, Senator Maggie Hassan, one of the most vulnerable Democrats in the U.S. Senate, announced she would vote in favor of radical David Chipman to run the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), once again caving to Washington liberals and special interest groups. Chipman has long been a supporter of restricting gun ownership and his nomination has been cheered by the anti-Second Amendment crowd.
Chipman’s nomination is no slam dunk. His nomination reflects the Democrats’ all-out assault on the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans and has other Senate Democrats on the fence.
Mark Oliva, director of public affairs for the National Shooting Sports Foundation, said that gun control groups “would have howled if President Trump nominated someone from the firearm industry to run the ATF during his term in office.” Chipman’s nomination is the equivalent for the gun control lobby.
With the New Hampshire House of Representatives reaffirming their independence from federal gun laws last month, Hassan is placing herself further out of step with her constituents.
Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “New Hampshire values its rugged independence and its citizens’ right to keep and bear arms. By supporting David Chipman, Hassan is endorsing radical gun ownership restrictions and attacking outdoorsmen and women across the Granite State. This is the exact opposite decision an independent-minded legislator would make and it’s one of the many reasons Hassan will lose in 16 months.”
