Washington, D.C. – Ohio Democrat Senate candidate Tim Ryan wants Ohioans to think he’s on the side of working-class families, but actions speak louder than words.
On November 18, 2021, Ryan slammed the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction, saying it was “bullshit” to think about giving a tax break to the wealthy. However, the very next day, he voted IN FAVOR of a tax break for millionaires and billionaires in blue states.
The bill he voted for – the Build Back Better Agenda – increases the annual cap on the deduction for SALT. Because of this, the Tax Policy Center said about two-thirds of millionaires would see an average tax cut of $16,800 in 2022. Not only that, but the bill will also raise taxes on 30% of middle-class families.
Over the years, Tim Ryan has talked a big game and criticized cutting taxes for the wealthy. But on November 19, 2021 he voted to give a tax break to the wealthy, showing Ohioans that he is just all talk.
Statement from NRSC Spokeswoman Lizzie Litzow: “Tim Ryan’s hypocrisy when it comes to taxing the rich is no joke. He calls himself a champion for the working class and said raising the SALT cap was “bullshit” but just voted to raise the SALT cap and give the wealthy a tax break. On top of that, the bill he voted for increases taxes on millions of middle-class families. Actions speak louder than words and Ohioans can see right through Tim Ryan’s bull—-.”
