Washington, D.C. – While gas prices continue to rise, Maggie Hassan, Catherine Cortez Masto and Patty Murray have been waging war on American energy. They voted against the Keystone XL Pipeline, killing thousands of American energy jobs. They voted against prohibiting the Biden Administration from banning fracking. And they voted against protecting American consumers and promoting American energy. While Hassan, Cortez Masto, Murray and the Senate Dems work to destroy the American energy industry, they’re doing their best to promote energy production and pipelines in other countries.
They have been silent on the Biden Administration’s approval of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline in Russia and have no problem with energy jobs and pipelines in other countries. But pipelines and energy jobs in the United States? That’s a no for Maggie Hassan, Catherine Cortez Masto and Patty Murray.
Now we know why. According to Axios, a Nord Stream 2 lobbyist donated the maximum legal amount to Maggie Hassan’s, Catherine Cortez Masto’s and Patty Murray’s campaigns. They would rather take money from foreign lobbyists than defend American energy jobs and lower gas prices. Their anti-American energy agenda makes a lot more sense now that we know who is funding their campaigns.
In case you missed it: Axios: Senate Dems receive max donations from Nord Stream 2 lobbyist.
A major Democratic donor and Nord Stream 2 lobbyist has made maximum campaign contributions this year to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and vulnerable Senate Democrats, campaign finance records show.
Why it matters: If pressure from the White House to vote against reimposing sanctions on the Russia-backed natural gas pipeline weren’t enough, Democrats who back such legislation also will be at loggerheads with one of their party’s top fundraisers.
Driving the news: Vincent Roberti, a former Connecticut state representative, has given the legal maximum of $5,800 to Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Patty Murray (Wash.).
- He’s also given $2,900 — the maximum primary contribution — to Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-N.H).
- Both Cortez Masto and Hassan face competitive reelection fights next year.
- Roberti’s firm, Roberti Global, has been paid $8.5 million for its Nord Stream 2 lobbying work, according to lobbying disclosure records.
