Washington, D.C. – This week, Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) unveiled a bill to suspend the gas tax for the remainder of the year – a good thing if it wasn’t so blatantly two-faced.
Maggie Hassan has been an outspoken champion of gas tax hikes dating back to her time as New Hampshire governor when she signed into law a massive 23% increase in the state gas tax! It’s a feat that she bragged about for her entire time in office.
But you don’t need to dig far into history to see Hassan’s full support of hiking the gas tax. Just last year, Hassan signed onto an infrastructure framework that included indexing the gas tax to inflation. With inflation now at a 40-year high thanks to the Biden agenda that Hassan has wholeheartedly supported, such a proposal would have had devastating consequences.
Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “Hassan may think that her last-minute feigned concern over the gas tax is enough to fleece New Hampshire voters in an election year, but she is mistaken. We have the receipts. Hassan’s entire career is marked by unabashed support for gas tax hikes. No amount of last-minute scrambling will erase that. ”
