David Weil Would Weaponize Federal Government Against Small Businesses
Washington, D.C. – Tonight, the U.S. Senate will vote on the nomination of David Weil, Joe Biden’s pick to oversee the Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour division. The DOL’s Wage and Hour agency has a $330 million budget and is responsible for enforcing all major labor laws.
You may remember David Weil because his nomination faltered last summer thanks to concerns voiced by some Democrats on the committee. But, not wanting to squander the opportunity to have a radical serve as wage chief, President Biden re-nominated Weil.
If confirmed, Weil’s radical Left-wing policies would crush small businesses and hurt middle-class workers – including 59 million Americans who perform independent and freelance work.
During his time in the Obama Administration, David Weil put in place frivolous regulations that hurt small businesses. Once the Trump Administration undid Weil’s radical policies, small businesses saw unprecedented growth and prosperity. Now, the Biden Administration wants to revert back to the same policies that caused the slowest economic recovery since WWII.
While Maggie Hassan has already voted for Weil as a member of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, all eyes will be on fellow vulnerable Democrats Raphael Warnock, Mark Kelly, Catherine Cortez Masto, and Michael Bennet to see if they follow suit.
Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “As small businesses continue to recover from the pandemic, the last thing they need is a big-government bureaucrat breathing down their neck. David Weil wants to reinstate the same onerous regulations that dragged down our nation’s economic recovery in the past. These regulations would crush small businesses and freelance workers across America, hurting hardworking middle-class families. If confirmed by the full Senate, David Weil will surely weaponize the federal government against small businesses. The Senate should reject Biden’s radical, anti-small business nominee, and voters should reject any Senator who supports him.”
