In the first six months of the 114th Congress, the Republicans have put in more working days than the last three Democrat-led Congresses. These numbers prove to be true with the high volume of bills advanced by the Senate and House.
The Republican led Senate has outrun the past Democrats, according to the Washington Examiner,
“The Senate has clocked 86 working days from when Republicans took control of the chamber in January until the end of June. That’s a double-digit increase in the number of days worked from the two previous sessions, when Democrats were in control.”
The article goes on to report,
“Senate panels advanced 102 bills, by far exceeding each of the last three Democrat-led Congresses.”
The House has also stepped up to the plate swinging. It’s reported that:
“The House had 70 working days, a tick above the two sessions that preceded it. The House stood at 145, beating the number reported by all previous sessions of Congress examined by the center, which includes the 1995-97 Congress and all sessions from 2007 to the present.”
With this new congress in session, things are looking up. According to former Senator Olympia Snowe,
"The legislative process was moribund. At least we have a legislative pulse now."
We have seen less of a stalemate and more results due to this new Republican-led Congress. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that,
"U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., has argued that the current United States Senate, of which he is a leader, is working better than the previous ones run by Democrats, including a more robust appropriations process and more debates over amendments on the Senate floor."
Jason Grument, founder of The Bipartisan Policy Center, added that, "For the second quarter in a row, the Congress is soaring over the very low bar set by its predecessors, we’re actually starting to see results."
After the first six months of the 114th Congress, these numbers further prove that the Republican Majority is working.
