Obama spoke today on his Iran nuclear deal, a deal that has been called "terrible," "dangerous," and "a historic mistake." Republican senators have pointed out the many flaws in the plan.
Senator Tom Cotton voiced his concerns on Morning Joe, saying:
“This proposed deal is a terrible, dangerous mistake that’s going to pave the path for Iran to get a nuclear weapon while giving them tens of billions of dollars of sanctions relief, even lifting the arms embargo at a time when they’re destabilizing the entire Middle East.”
Many senators had doubts early on. As Politico reported:
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell used the phrase “hard sell” at least five times in just a few minutes Sunday, as he and other lawmakers cast doubt on Iranian nuclear negotiations amid reports a deal could be imminent.
Senator Corker, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said in a statement:
"I want to read the agreement in detail and fully understand it, but I begin from a place of deep skepticism that the deal actually meets the goal of preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon."
Senator John McCain called the deal "delusional and dangerous" and explained:
"Ultimately, the problem with this agreement is that it is built far too much on hope – on the belief that somehow the Iranian government will fundamentally change in the next several years, such that it can be trusted with a growing arsenal, a huge influx of cash, and the infrastructure of a nuclear program."
Obama’s deal does not protect Americans. It will allow Iran to create a nuclear arms race.
