Since 2009, Senator Michael Bennet has known that President Obama was working to transfer dangerous terror detainees from Guantanamo Bay to other facilities around the country. One potential location is the Supermax facility prison in Florence, Colorado. Sen. Michael Bennet has stood idly by, even striking down amendments that would keep this criminals out of Colorado. Does he not realize that these are dangerous criminals who could potentially threaten the lives of innocent civilians?
Two cities in Colorado are being considered for the placement of these detainees: Florence and Canon City. Bennet is irresponsibly enabling Obama’s foolish campaign promise to close Guantanamo, despite the pleas of 41 Colorado sheriffs who wrote the Obama Administration declaring their strong opposition to the transfer. A new poll also found 56 percent of adults oppose closing Gitmo.
The video “Endangering Colorado” shows how Bennet not once, but twice, opposed legislation that would have kept these dangerous prisoners out of the United States. Even with bipartisan congressional support to knock down Obama’s proposition, Bennet still sided with the president.
Since 2009, Bennet has been aware that Obama has set his sights on Colorado to hold these detainees in captivity. So why didn’t he do anything about it? It’s time for Bennet to be held accountable for his inaction, before it’s too late.
