Washington, D.C. – Maggie Hassan of 2021 would not recognize Maggie Hassan of 2022. Faced with the very real possibility of defeat in November, Hassan has gone all-out in the last few months to try and make voters forget her voting record in the U.S. Senate. All this while keeping her Washington office closed to Granite States. As Hassan plans a trip to the Southern Border and continues to push her gas tax gimmick, let’s look back at two of her biggest sudden transformations of the past year:
Immigration/Border Security
- March 2021: Hassan votes for providing stimulus checks to illegal immigrants.
- August 2021: Hassan votes against proper border security funding.
- April 1, 2022: Hassan tweets that she opposes ending Title 42, is concerned about border security and is going to the border personally.
Energy/Gas Prices
- February and March, 2021: Hassan votes against legislation to prohibit a ban on fracking THREE TIMES.
- February and March, 2021: Hassan votes against advancing the Keystone XL Pipeline FOUR TIMES.
- June 2021: Hassan signs onto framework indexing the federal gas tax to INFLATION.
- February 2022: Hassan teams up with fellow vulnerable Democrat Senators to propose a gas tax holiday gimmick in the midst of an energy crisis she helped create.
Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “You can’t make up this type of blatant pandering. The only rational explanation for Hassan’s sudden shift in policy outlook is that she thinks New Hampshire voters are dumb enough to believe what she is saying. Unfortunately for her, Granite Staters weren’t born yesterday and see right through Hassan’s garbage.”
