As Joe Manchin continues to take heat for his inexplicable vote against tax cuts for West Virginia workers, he now has even more explaining to do thanks to a report from West Virginia’s State Auditor.
The Auditor reports that West Virginia state employees will see $50 million in tax savings this year, thanks to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which was signed into law by President Trump in December. In addition to the direct tax savings enjoyed by workers, the tax law has already resulted in more than 300 companies providing pay raises, bonuses or other benefits to employees. Despite all these benefits, Manchin turned his back on President Trump and West Virginia, joining Washington Democrats in universal opposition to tax cuts.
As the new, lower tax rates are further implemented, resulting in higher take-home pay for workers, Manchin’s vote will look even worse to West Virginia voters.
