The “horrendous week” theme is becoming all too common for “Retread” Ted Strickland. Let’s recap:

MONDAY

Before Retread Ted could even get his coffee – it was already a bad day. The Akron Beacon Journal as well as The Plain Dealer and Cleveland.com announced their support for Strickland’s primary opponent, P.G. Sittenfeld. The endorsement followed months of Strickland’s “ghost” campaign and also moments like this.

TUESDAY

After Retread Ted lost out on two major editorial board endorsements, P.G. Sittenfeld announced that his campaign will begin airing TV ads and several media outlets covered the implosion of Strickland’s campaign, yielding statements like this:

  • “The first two Ohio newspapers to pick a candidate in the Democratic Senate primary are both backing underdog Cincinnati Councilman P.G. Sittenfeld over the party’s choice, former Governor and Congressman Ted Strickland.” (Tom Beres, “Sittenfeld captures Plain Dealer and Beacon Journal endorsements,” NBC Cleveland, 2/29/16)

  • “…Northeast Ohio has the largest trove of Democratic voters in the state, so the endorsements can only help Sittenfeld.” (Chris Wetterich, “Sittenfeld makes his move in Senate race,” The Cincinnati Business Journal, 2/29/16)

WEDNESDAY

National Democrats are afraid. In a clear move of desperation and an attempt to shore up the base Strickland announced the endorsements of President Obama and Vice President Biden.

THURSDAY

Moments before the end-of-day deadline, Strickland quietly release his pre-primary fundraising numbers. The former Governor, Congressman, and Retread candidate reported raising less than $500,000 for the January 1st to February 24th period. That’s less than half of the $1.1 million raised by the Portman campaign in the same period.

The NRSC also released a new paid digital advertising campaign against Strickland. “Man-Child” features clips from Strickland’s painful editorial board interview with Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer. [CLICK TO WATCH: Man-Child]

FRIDAY

Strickland lost his THIRD editorial board endorsement from the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram.

And also…more desperation!

After the embarrassing fundraising numbers reported Thursday, national Democrats are pulling out all the stops. The Strickland campaign announced that VP Biden will host a fundraiser in an attempt to prop up Strickland’s lackluster fundraising.
