Washington, D.C. – In what has become his go-to political move, Mark Kelly is still avoiding answering questions about the filibuster. Unlike Senator Sinema who has been vocal in her opposition to ending the legislative filibuster and ramming through a radical liberal agenda, Mark Kelly is trying to go as long as he can without giving a straight answer. Still studying, perhaps?
After dodging the filibuster question throughout the entire 2020 election season, here’s what Mark Kelly told the Arizona Republic yesterday:
On another topic, Kelly did not take a stand on calls by some Democrats to eliminate or change the Senate’s legislative filibuster, the rule that requires the support of 60 senators to end debate and advance a bill.
The future of the filibuster in the 50-50 Senate has taken on a new urgency as Democrats gear up to consider controversial legislation that could determine the future of gun control, voting rights, immigration reform, infrastructure spending and other measures.
“Well, when we get to the point where we’re going to have, you know, a serious discussion about this, I’ll make a decision based on what’s in the best interest of Arizona and the country,” Kelly told reporters.
Statement from NRSC Spokeswoman Katharine Cooksey: “D.C. Darling Mark Kelly has been ‘studying’ his own stance on the filibuster for nearly a year, yet he still cannot give a straight answer. He’s just delaying the inevitable. Mark Kelly can’t stand up to Washington Democrats who bankrolled his campaign – we all know he will support abolishing the filibuster. Once again, Mark Kelly proves how easy it is for him to ignore Arizona voters and fold to the Far Left special interest groups and Democrat leadership in Washington.”
