Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is not happy at all with how Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is doing his job.
This weekend on CNN’s State of the Union with Dana Bash, AOC blasted Schumer and Senate Democrats for a host of issues including how they’re negotiating the infrastructure bill (“this isn’t the best we can get”), their refusal to abolish the filibuster, and the speed at which they are working to pass her liberal wish list.
“I do think that we need to talk about the elephant in the room, which is Senate Democrats, which are blocking crucial items in a Democratic agenda … I think, for reasons that I don’t think hold a lot of water,” said AOC.
She then advocated for cutting Republicans out of all legislating moving forward: “I think the argument that we need to make here is that it’s worth going it alone if we can do more for working people in this country.”
AOC has become more and more outspoken in recent weeks about her discontent with the upper chamber, and Schumer is feeling the heat. If he doesn’t capitulate to AOC, he could be out of a job in 2022.
Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “Chuck Schumer’s feeling the heat as AOC ramps up her criticism of how he is running the Senate. On Sunday, AOC made it clear that Schumer should either scrap the filibuster or forfeit the ability to deliver any acceptable legislation for her socialist base. The Majority Leader of the Senate is stuck, and vulnerable Democrat Senators are hoping his desire to save his own career won’t cost them their own.”
