Washington, D.C. – In November, 20 House Democrats wrote to Speaker Pelosi and Leader Schumer concerned about a provision in the “Build Back Broke” bill that would strip billions from hospitals serving low-income patients in many red states. Their words were empty, however, as they all voted for the bill weeks later.

Sadly, the same situation is currently playing out in the U.S. Senate, with all eyes now focused on red state Democrat, Raphael Warnock. Much like the House members before him, Warnock’s spokesman has said that the Senator has urged Pelosi and Schumer to remove the provision, but has stopped short of saying that failure to do so would lose his support.

In other words, Warnock is willing to support the deeply unpopular, inflation-hiking “Build Back Broke” bill to appease Chuck Schumer, even if it means cutting funding from hospitals that serve underprivileged communities in Georgia.

Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “To feign concern over funding for low-income hospitals only to turn around and vote to cut their funding is as crass a political move as can be imagined.  Warnock has gotten awfully comfortable with life in the D.C. swamp.  Even Chuck Schumer knows that he has the junior Senator from Georgia under his thumb.  Schumer can cut funding for Georgia hospitals in underserved communities without fear of ever losing Warnock’s vote.  Warnock fights for the agenda of Washington Democrats, not Georgia families.”
