Washington, D.C. – There is a new trend among the most vulnerable Democrat Senators like Raphael Warnock, Mark Kelly, Maggie Hassan, and Catherine Cortez Masto: Run against Congress and the Biden agenda, even though you serve in it and have supported it wholeheartedly.
Warnock has been the boldest with this contradictory strategy, openly admitting he is unable to bring any change to Washington. Not to be outdone, Democrat incumbents are running from their record on immigration as fast as possible, like Maggie Hassan who has gone full MAGA, and Mark Kelly who continues to mislead Arizonans.
CNN summed it up well in an article yesterday: “Running against Washington is nothing new. Running against Washington while your party controls the White House, Senate and House is something significantly more complicated.”
Did these Senators forget that they remain in lockstep with their party, seldom casting a vote against President Biden?
- Raphael Warnock votes 95.5% in line with Biden.
- Mark Kelly votes 97.7% in line with Biden.
- Maggie Hassan votes 97.7% in line with Biden.
- Catherine Cortez Masto votes 95.5% in line with Biden.
Vulnerable Democrats are placing their re-election chances in the hope that voters forget that they currently serve in the same Congress that they dislike and fully support Biden’s unpopular agenda. It is not a winning strategy.
Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “Vulnerable Democrat Senators are embracing a strategy of running against themselves. Not only is this a self-fulfilling prophecy when the public sentiment is to ‘throw the bums out,’ but it underscores just how few accomplishments the Democrats have to tout. Apparently, that number is zero.”
