Washington, DC – President Joe Biden wasted no time appeasing authoritarian regimes (even going so far as to speak to Xi and Putin before placing a call to our strongest ally in the Middle East). We all remember Hillary Clinton’s failed “Reset” button with Russia, and Barack Obama’s “flexibility” gaffe with Medvedev.
At last night’s CNN town hall, Biden made it very clear: He will attack China when appropriate, but behind closed doors, Xi and Biden are going to be good friends. This should come as no surprise since Joe has been very clear he doesn’t think China is a competition for us.
“…I point out to him no American president can be sustained as a President if he doesn’t reflect the values of the United States…He gets it. Culturally there are different norms in each country and their leaders are expected to follow.”
Statement from NRSC Spokeswoman Priscilla Ivasco: “Joe Biden’s message to Xi was clear: I have to criticize you publicly but will work with you privately. But in doing so, he rationalized Xi Jinping’s human rights abuses in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the genocide against the Uyghurs. We’ve already seen how miserably the Obama/Biden/Clinton Administration’s “Reset” with Russia failed, with disastrous consequences. Trying the same tactic with China is both naïve and dangerous and will haunt Senate Democrats politically for years to come.”
