Catherine Cortez Masto needed almost two months to take a position on one of the country’s most pressing policy issues. She refuses to answer questions about her beliefs. In fact, the only thing Cortez Masto is willing to do as a Senate candidate is line her pockets with campaign cash from Washington party bosses and California liberals.
And now we know why. After being forced to disinvite a terrorism apologist from a fundraiser where she was the headline guest, it’s clear that Harry Reid’s chosen stand-in just isn’t ready for primetime.
- “Catherine Cortez Masto, a former Nevada attorney general who is running for the U.S. Senate, has disinvited City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito from a fundraiser for her campaign, because of the speaker’s support for a Puerto Rican nationalist imprisoned for seditious conspiracy… Mark-Viverito supports the release of Oscar López Rivera, a member of the Armed Forces of National Liberation (FALN) in Puerto Rico, who was convicted and sentenced to 55 years in prison for conspiracy to transport explosives with intent to destroy government property, among other charges, in the 1980s.” (Gloria Pazmino, “Senate Candidate Disinvites Mark-Viverito From Fundraiser,” Politico New York, 9/9/15)
The humiliating botched fundraiser comes days after Cortez Masto fled the scene when asked to take a position on President Obama’s nuclear giveaway to Iran:

Nevada voters tuning into Cortez Masto’s campaign are only left to wonder whether the candidate has any direction at all – or if Harry Reid’s handpicked successor just isn’t up to the challenge of a tough race.
