Majority Leader Not Ruling Out Primaries For Dem Colleagues In Order To Prevent Primary Against Himself
Washington, D.C. – Senate Democrats are in a bad place. And it’s clear that Chuck Schumer doesn’t have their back.
Yesterday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer refused to say whether or not he would support his own embattled incumbents who face primary threats because they won’t support abolishing the filibuster. It’s yet another cowardly move that makes you wonder whether Chuck Schumer really wants to preserve his majority.
The Majority Leader, following AOC’s marching orders, is now turning his sword against members of his own party who won’t permanently break the Senate to pass a federal takeover of elections bill that is both unpopular with Americans and can’t pass under current rules.
Vulnerable Democrat Senators Raphael Warnock, Maggie Hassan, Mark Kelly, Catherine Cortez Masto, and Michael Bennet are all being forced to go on the record on the filibuster in order to protect their Dear Leader, even though there isn’t nearly enough support to change the rule.
Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “Self-preservation over Senate-preservation is the name of the game for Chuck Schumer. Now, he refuses to defend members of his own majority who are living under the threat of a primary challenge from the radical left. It is a shocking statement from a leader on the brink of massive losses, both in the Senate and at the ballot box. Panic over a collapsed agenda has set in, and Schumer has decided that all Democrats must stand with him in his quest to prevent an AOC primary or become the enemy.”
