Washington, D.C. – Instead of returning to school last week, thousands of schools bent to the will of the anti-student teachers unions by closing completely or making a return to virtual classrooms. Now, the Clark County School District (CCSD) – the nation’s fifth largest school district – is following suit.
Yesterday, CCSD announced a “five-day pause” where teachers will work from home and school is canceled for all students. A drastic move as students are falling behind due to closed schools and the lack of in-person learning.
It sure would be nice for parents and students if they had an advocate. But unfortunately for them, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto is a proud proponent of shutting down schools. In fact, Cortez Masto voted twice last year against reopening schools, risking the well-being of Nevada students. What’s more? Cortez Masto promised that recklessly spending billions of dollars would keep schools open. She lied.
Will schools closing and students suffering right in her backyard finally force Cortez Masto to stand with students over her teachers union donors?
Statement from NRSC Spokeswoman Katharine Cooksey: “Catherine Cortez Masto has made clear she places a higher value on campaign donations from the anti-student teachers unions than she does on the well-being of Nevada students. If she truly cared about students, she wouldn’t have voted to keep schools closed. Why is it so hard for Cortez Masto to fight for students?”
