Lamb’s Campaign Ad Violates House Ethics Rules
Washington, D.C. – Senate hopeful Congressman Conor Lamb, who can’t seem to figure out what kind of politician he is, released his first ad and couldn’t even figure out how to get that right! The ad blatantly violates House ethics rules: No footage from the House floor. One of the most basic rules as a candidate.
According to Punchbowl PM 3/10/22:
→ Rep. Conor Lamb’s (D-Pa.) first Pennsylvania Senate ad makes the case that the moderate lawmaker represents Democrats’ “best chance to beat the Republicans this fall.” In an appeal to electability — and a bet that Democratic primary voters share that desire — the ad highlights how Lamb beat a Donald Trump-endorsed candidate three times in the last four years.
Note: While Lamb’s campaign released the ad on YouTube, we haven’t seen a corresponding buy appear on our AdImpact TV tracking platform.
Also: It’s against House ethics rules to use footage from the floor in campaign ads. Lamb’s spot includes a clip of the Democratic candidate while on the floor assailing Republicans for lying about the Jan. 6 attack.
→ Here’s the clause: “Broadcast coverage and recordings of House floor proceedings may not be used for any political purpose under House Rule 5, clause 2(c)(1). In addition, under House Rule 11, clause 4(b), radio and television tapes and film of any coverage of House committee proceedings may not be used, or made available for use, as partisan political campaign material to promote or oppose the candidacy of any person for public office.” Lamb’s campaign didn’t respond to a request for comment.
Statement from NRSC Spokeswoman Lizzie Litzow: “Conor Lamb can’t seem to get anything right. First, his constant identity crisis and going wherever the political winds blow and now his first campaign ad. It’s embarrassing. He is a current member of the U.S. House, whose rules he blatantly violated. He clearly isn’t putting much thought into his campaign. If Lamb can’t even get the basics right, then how can he be expected to deliver for Pennsylvanians?”
