Senator Portman’s re-election campaign closed out another impressive week as they hosted Ann Romney in Columbus for the “Women for Portman” kick-off event today.
More than 600 women have already pledged to engage, inform, and inspire individuals across Ohio on behalf of Senator Portman, and more than 250 women attended today’s event.
As you may remember, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton hosted her own “Women for Hillary” event in Columbus in September. Despite being the Democrats’ frontrunner for President, Clinton’s turnout was unimpressive and was characterized by reporters as “not exactly a packed house,” “[a] very small crowd,” and “not a full room.”
Senator Portman’s energy and turnout for today’s rally far surpassed that of Hillary Clinton. See for yourself:
Perhaps that’s because Ohio Democrats are in the midst of a contentious primary and their Washington-picked candidate hasn’t met with voters in Ohio for nearly two weeks. If Retread Ted isn’t on the trail, where is he?
At a Democratic Party dinner earlier this month, Strickland told attendees that he couldn’t stay long because he needed to fly to Miami, New York, Boston and Washington to fundraise, a statement that “drew murmurs from the crowd.”
How’s that for contrast?
In the two weeks that Ted Strickland has been jet-setting across the country raising money from special interest groups and big money donors, Senator Portman has been engaging with voters in Ohio.
In case you missed it – the NRSC launched a web video highlighting Ted Strickland’s out-of-state fundraising push. (WATCH)

Before today’s successful Women for Portman event, Senator Portman hosted a statewide Super Saturday last weekend. Portman volunteers crushed their voter contact goal of 25,000 – with more than 800 supporters across Ohio contacting 41,922 voters.
