Washington, D.C. — Last week, Senate hopeful Morgan Harper slammed her opponent, Congressman Tim Ryan, for being a phony career politician who is all talk.

Harper said that Ryan is someone who “is one of the biggest takers of corporate PAC money and lobbyist money in all of Congress,” someone who “had to evolve on issues like abortion and right to choose,” a former NRA member who received an A-rating from the NRA, and “most importantly is not someone that has an answer to the most common question in the state, what makes him different and why should [we trust him].”

Morgan Harper is not wrong. Despite claiming to oppose “Big Money” in politics and decrying the “influence of corporate special interests in our elections,” Ryan has received hundreds of thousands of dollars from corporate PACs, corporate lobbyists, and corporate executives. Over his career, Ryan has received $425,869 in contributions from lobbyists, $3,294,055 from corporate PACs, and $168,500 from teachers’ unions.

Statement from NRSC Spokeswoman Lizzie Litzow: “The Democrat infighting in Ohio is only heating up and will continue up until their primary in May. Morgan Harper’s challenge is forcing Ryan to show Ohioans his true colors, something he clearly does not want to do. He hasn’t been able to hide his flip-flopping nor the fact that he is a phony career politician, and we look forward to watching the infighting continue to play out.”
