Washington, D.C. – During the president’s townhall in Ohio last night, Biden lectured a small business owner on how to do their job and “didn’t really answer the question” when the Ohio restaurant owner voiced his concern about labor shortages. You could say the restaurant owner was less than thrilled with the non-answer reply.

Instead of addressing the real issue behind the struggles of the restaurant industry – inflation – Biden insisted they aren’t paying their workers enough, suggesting they need to be paid $15 an hour or more. Even though, in this case, most of this restaurant owner’s workers are receiving more than $15 an hour.

For Biden though there is a reason he purposely avoided the topic of inflation. He and his administration are the ones to blame and Biden’s pollster is even taking note and raising alarms. Our recent National Battleground Survey revealed that the majority of Americans have placed the blame squarely on Democrats.

At the core of Biden’s inflation are economically indefensible policies, such as continued enhanced unemployment payments, that are hurting small businesses and stunting the economic recovery.  It is a common story, one that we heard last night from an Ohio restaurant owner, and one being told throughout the country. Our polling found that 62% of Americans believe “overly generous welfare and unemployment benefits are preventing people from looking for work” because “the government is paying them to stay at home.”

So, where does Tim Ryan stand on this? Ohio small business owners are struggling, and Biden is lecturing them about paying their workers more and not addressing the core issue at hand. Does Tim Ryan agree with Biden, or will he stand up for hardworking Ohioans?
