President Trump announced his Supreme Court pick, Judge Neil Gorsuch, last night, and Sherrod Brown couldn’t wait to announce his opposition. Sherrod Brown’s quick decision puts him to the left of even Socialist Bernie Sanders, who announced his intention to question Gorsuch and learn about his positions before deciding on whether or not to support his nomination. By opposing Judge Gorsuch before hearings begin, or indeed before even meeting with him, Brown joins the likes of Elizabeth Warren in her reflexive opposition to President Trump.
As the night went on, Brown found himself even more isolated, with even fellow extreme liberals speaking highly of Gorsuch. Left wing MSNBC host Rachel Maddow called Judge Gorsuch a “relatively mainstream choice” for the Court. And former Obama administration Solicitor General Neal Katyal penned an op-ed calling Gorsuch “an extraordinary judge and man,” and arguing that liberals should back his nomination.
“With his opposition to Judge Neil Gorsuch, Sherrod Brown is proving once again that he has more in common with Elizabeth Warren and the far left than with Ohioans,” said NRSC Spokesman Bob Salera. “Ohioans sent a clear message in November that they want a new direction in Washington, but all Sherrod Brown has to offer are partisan tantrums.”
