Washington, D.C. – Last night, John Fetterman lied about a handful of his policy stances. Here are some examples:
Last night on taxes: Fetterman claimed that Oz lied about Fetterman not paying his taxes 67 times.
Reality: Fetterman has advocated for several tax hikes on Pennsylvania families and businesses, but he and his non-profit group, Braddock Redux, have been sued 67 times for over $30,000 in tax, trash and sewer liens.
Last night on inflation: Fetterman claimed we need to fight the inflation because it is a tax on working families.
Reality: Fetterman has said he would have supported President Biden’s $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan if he were in the Senate, which has led to numerous examples of “pork-barrel spending disasters” from state and local governments. He has also said he would have supported the $433 billion Inflation Reduction Act despite analyses showing it would cost 29,000 full-time jobs, raise taxes “significantly,” increase funding for the IRS which could result in more audits of middle-class Americans, reduce GDP, and could worsen inflation.
Last night on transparency: Fetterman claimed that he is being transparent by showing up at the debate.
Reality: Fetterman has not been transparent. He continues to refuse – like he did last night again – to release his medical records! Despite, multiple people and outlets asking. It’s been 166 days since his stroke.
Last night on crime: Fetterman claimed that he was successful pushing back against gun violence and making the community more safe.
Reality: Crime skyrocketed in Braddock while Fetterman was mayor.
Last night on fracking: Fetterman claimed that he supports fracking, multiple times.
Reality: Fetterman thinks fracking is a “stain” on Pennsylvania, signed a pledge to ban fracking and has said, “I don’t support fracking at all – and I never have.”
Last night on socialized medicine: Fetterman claimed that he has never supported a socialist health system.
Reality: Fetterman called a socialist single-payer system “ideal,” brags that he’s “pushed for single payer healthcare long before it was mainstream,” and said he supports socialist Bernie Sanders’ Medicare For All bill.
Last night on abortion: Fetterman claimed it wasn’t true that he doesn’t support limits on abortion.
Reality: Fetterman has said multiple times that he supports abortion up until the moment of birth.
Statement from NRSC Spokeswoman Lizzie Litzow: “When asked about it, John Fetterman is ashamed of his radical record. So much so that he lied about it on stage last night. He knows his record is not what Pennsylvanians want to hear, but we have the receipts. Fetterman is too radical and too dangerous for Pennsylvania.”
