Washington, D.C. – It was a publishing error, but it was the perfect encapsulation of Maggie Hassan’s Senate career.
In Wednesday’s PM version of the Punchbowl newsletter, Sen. Hassan was listed as one of the senators present at the bipartisan infrastructure meeting, working across the aisle for the betterment of New Hampshire.
Alas, the shock of this new Maggie Hassan didn’t last long. This morning, Punchbowl issued this correction:
“Correction: We wrote in yesterday’s PM edition that Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) was in the bipartisan infrastructure meeting. It was Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.). Our fault. Apologies.”
You can’t make it up! Sen. Hassan has been M.I.A when it comes to some of the most pressing issues facing the U.S. Senate, such as infrastructure and filibuster reform, content with waiting to see where the prevailing winds blow among her party’s leadership before rending an opinion. This is no surprise given she votes with Chuck Schumer 99% of the time and her neighbor Bernie Sanders 96% of the time.
Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “When the NRSC team heard Maggie Hassan was involved in a bipartisan effort to improve America’s infrastructure, we were shocked. We’re all relieved to learn that pigs still can’t fly and hell has not frozen over.”
