Washington, D.C. – Today, vulnerable Senate Democrat Patty Murray led a hearing in the Senate HELP Committee on the fentanyl crisis.
But what Chairwoman Murray didn’t mention is that in March 2021, she voted AGAINST directing $300 million to anti-narcotic and opioid activities carried out by U.S. Customs & Border Protection.
In that year alone, drug-related overdose deaths in Washington state surpassed 2,000, marking a 66 percent increase from 2019 and making it the state’s “worst year on record” for deaths linked to fentanyl.
The fentanyl crisis has been deeply affecting Washington State and the addiction rates have reached a crisis point while Murray has been in the Senate.

As Tiffany Smiley says, Murray has essentially been mailing it in for years and ignoring problems that are impacting the quality of life for the people of Washington State. The fentanyl crisis is no different. Washingtonians deserve someone who will fight for them, not a 40-year politician who only cries for help when everything is already on fire.”
