Washington, D.C. – Last week, Mandela Barnes embarrassingly touted being endorsed by only 9 law enforcement officers, 7 who are retired and 2 (!) active. There are a total of 13,400 law enforcement officers in Wisconsin.
Not only is that number embarrassingly low, but one of his two active law enforcement officer endorsements was a lie! John Siegel, Police Captain for La Crosse, WI, was listed on Barnes’ endorsement list but claimed he never endorsed Barnes. Awkward.
But this is the least surprising series of events given Mandela Barnes’ dangerously liberal record on crime.
- Barnes has the full support of Defund the Police groups.
- He wanted to abolish ICE.
- As a state legislator, Barnes proposed eliminating cash bail in Wisconsin and letting violent criminals back on the streets.
- He supports cutting the prison population in half.
- During the Kenosha riots, he fanned the flames of violence and vilified police departments.
- Lt. Gov. Barnes charged taxpayers more than $600,000 for state patrol to accompany him to out-of-state marathons, racking up 10 times more hours than his predecessor.
Statement from NRSC Spokeswoman Lizzie Litzow: “This is embarrassing on many levels, but to only have ONE active law enforcement officer endorsement takes the cake. Barnes is running one of the most anti-public safety campaigns in the country and this is not helping in the slightest. Wisconsinites see Barnes as the dangerous Democrat that he is.”
