Washington, D.C. – D.C. Darling Mark Kelly still doesn’t have lift off when it comes to whether or not he supports eliminating the legislative filibuster. Kelly dodged the filibuster question throughout the entire 2020 campaign and recently told the Arizona Republic he was “studying” and still does not have an answer for Arizona voters. Well, folks, the studying appears to be ongoing for Mark Kelly, at least according to a new report from CNN:
Sen. Mark Kelly, an Arizona Democrat up for reelection next year, indicated he hasn’t decided if he backs lowering the 60-vote requirement or if his position is in line with Sinema’s opposition to changing the rules.
While Kelly said Tuesday he is “generally a believer in change,” the freshman Democrat said: “I’ll evaluate any change to our rules, regardless of what they are, based on what’s in the best interest of Arizona, and the best interest of our country.”
If Mark Kelly wants to do what’s best for Arizona, he might want to look to a recent Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) poll to shape his decision. The FGA poll found the majority of Arizona voters SUPPORT the legislative filibuster because it ensures bipartisanship. But Mark Kelly is too terrified of upsetting Chuck Schumer, Bernie Sanders, and the D.C. special interest groups that fund his campaign to actually do what Arizonans elected him to do. So, a never-ending study session on the filibuster it is.
Statement from NRSC Spokeswoman Katharine Cooksey: “Mark Kelly’s robotic filibuster answer was old back in February. Now, it’s just getting embarrassing for him as Arizonans continually show their support for bipartisanship and maintaining the legislative filibuster. The reason for Mark Kelly’s consistent non-answer can only be chalked up to the fact that he works for Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, not Arizona.”
