“Patrick Murphy has orchestrated quite an arrangement for himself,” said NRSC spokesman Greg Blair. “He takes a six-figure, taxpayer-funded salary, accomplishes nothing, and then asks for a promotion. The good news for Murphy is that he’ll have plenty of free time on his hands after Floridians reject his thin record and hollow agenda. After all, voters tend to prefer an elected official who will fight for something besides keeping his schedule clear.”
Nonpartisan congressional tracker Inside Gov named Murphy one of the least effective members of Congress:
- “The Democratic senate primary race between Reps. Patrick Murphy and Alan Grayson will likely be colored as a moderate versus progressive matchup, but Grayson is already trying to frame it more as effective congressman versus do-nothing congressman. Grayson certainly got some help in the category last week from congressional tracking website Inside Gov. They named Murphy as one of the least-effective members of congress.” (Kyle Munzenrieder, “Patrick Murphy Named One Of America’s Least Effective Congressmen,” Miami New Times, 8/10/15)
Making matters worse for Murphy? His primary opponent, Alan Grayson, has a reputation for churning out legislation:
- “Grayson however is something of a legislation-writing matching. He introduced more bills during that term than any other member of congress, and that’s a fact he likes to trump. ‘In the past two years in Congress, I’ve written more bills, passed more amendments on the floor of the House and enacted more of my bills into law than any other member of the House — No. 1 out of 435 of us,’ he said during his campaign announcement video last month.” (Kyle Munzenrieder, “Patrick Murphy Named One Of America’s Least Effective Congressmen,” Miami New Times, 8/10/15)
What will the do-nothing congressman do next? Not much, if we had to guess.
