Washington, D.C. — As state Democrat parties make their pitches to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) as to why they should be an early primary state, Maggie Hassan is once again trying to paint herself as a defender of the Granite State’s First In The Nation primary.
There’s just one problem: She actively tried to end it.
Just last year, she co-sponsored and breathlessly championed S. 1, the “Corrupt Politicians’ Act” which would place the power of federal elections in the hands of Washington politicians instead of local leaders.
But don’t take our word for it, just recall the words of former Democrat Secretary of State Bill Gardner who held the position for 40 years: “…I’ve made the statement that it [S.1] could put the New Hampshire primary in a perilous position and I stand by that statement.”
Despite Gardner’s unparalleled expertise in New Hampshire election law, Hassan didn’t speak to him once to discuss S.1 or any other voting rights bill.
Whether it’s drilling for more oil, building a wall, or defending the #FITN primary, there is a strong election year trend of Hassan voting one way and then saying the exact opposite.
Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “Maggie Hassan is not who she says she is. If The DNC moves the date of the New Hampshire Primary, she deserves the blame.”
