Chuck Schumer made the odd decision to appoint a Senator currently facing felony corruption charges to the conference committee that will finalize the tax relief plan.
Schumer named disgraced New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez as one of seven Senate Democrats to the conference committee this afternoon. Menendez, you’ll recall, remains under indictment after a mistrial was declared in his first trial for bribery, conspiracy, fraud and other corruption charges. Who better to advocate for the Democrat position on taxes than a Senator accused of numerous financial crimes?
“Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats showed how unserious they are by naming an accused felon to the conference committee,” said NRSC Communications Director Katie Martin. “Bob Menendez has embarrassed his state and the Senate, but Chuck Schumer seems to think he’s the perfect person to negotiate on Senate Democrats’ behalf.”
