Washington, D.C. – This weekend, Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced he would be voting against HR1/S1, aka the “Corrupt Politicians Act”, calling it “too broad and too partisan.”  This is not an unusual take, even among Democrats.  In fact, long-time New Hampshire Democrat Secretary of State Bill Gardner, who has overseen the Granite State’s elections for over 40 years, has repeatedly criticized the bill as a Washington power grab and warned of the negative impacts it would have on his state and the country as a whole.

Well, it didn’t take long for the socialists in the House to pounce.  Following Manchin’s announcement, Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) called him “the new Mitch McConnell.” A spokesperson for Democrat Majority Whip Dick Durbin tweeted (and then deleted) criticism of Joe Manchin for…living on a boat?

But the “Corrupt Politicians Act” isn’t the only major crack in Schumer’s majority.  Ending the filibuster, a Democratic primary “litmus test,” is Dead On Arrival in the Senate thanks to opposition from Manchin and Senator Krysten Sinema (D-AZ) among others.

Although Schumer’s fellow Democrat Senators have stuck with him, the President, and Bernie nearly 100% of the time so far, that trend may be changing. Heading into 2022, and a potential primary race against Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, Schumer cannot afford such disarray in his caucus.

Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “Chuck Schumer’s majority in the Senate is falling apart. Senate Democrats are in complete disarray. As he continues to cater to the Far Left, Schumer is bleeding the moderate votes he needs to pass the legislation he’s pushing to save his Senate career. Instead of working with Republicans to get things done, however, the socialists in his party have resorted to anger instead of compromise. Will Schumer learn his lesson and start working with Republicans to pass responsible, compromise legislation? Likely, no. His only political concern is preventing a primary challenge from AOC, even if it means forcing his vulnerable Democrat incumbents to walk the plank.”
