Washington, D.C. – Bernie Sanders’ favorite Senate candidate is trying to fool Pennsylvanians. John Fetterman’s first ad of the general election tries to paint him as a Washington outsider who will “take on Washington.” But there are a couple problems with that portrayal.
First, John Fetterman has said that he’ll be D.C. Democrats’ 51st vote if he becomes a United States Senator. He admitted that he’ll be a rubber stamp for things like the Green New Deal, tax cuts for the rich, and tax hikes for the middle class. Fetterman also told moderate voters that he would “let them down” if he makes it to Washington.
Second, D.C. Democrats like Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders love John Fetterman, and he loves them back. Joe Biden praised John Fetterman when he was in Pennsylvania while Fetterman gushed back and said, “every Democrat is going to be proud to stand with Joe Biden.”
Fetterman endorsed his mentor Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign and Sanders returned the favor by endorsing Fetterman in 2018. He even said that Fetterman will help him pass Medicare for all.
Statement from NRSC Spokesman Jonathan Turcotte: “John Fetterman isn’t fooling anyone. A Bernie bro with a long history of endorsements and praise from Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders isn’t someone who will take on Washington. John Fetterman already said the quiet part out loud. He’ll vote however D.C. Democrats tell him to vote. Pennsylvanians literally can’t afford to send another soldier in Democrats’ war on American energy to the U.S. Senate.”
