Washington, D.C. – After spending months pushing a so-called “gas tax holiday”, Senate Democrats turned their backs on American families when they voted in support of President Joe Biden’s reckless tax-and-spend bill.
From day one of President Biden’s term, Democrats have launched a war against America’s energy independence. They scrapped the Keystone XL pipeline, stymied fracking nationwide, banned responsible drilling in certain domestic locations, and have intentionally slow-rolled a number of energy-producing projects, all in the name of severely wounding the oil and gas industry. Now they voted for a reckless spending bill that includes a $12 BILLION TAX on crude oil that will be paid by American consumers.
“With gas averaging $4.21 per gallon across the country and only weeks removed from record-high prices, Democrats have included a 16.4 cents-per-barrel tax on crude oil and imported petroleum products.
The proposal was included in Democrats’ House-passed reconciliation bill last year and estimated to cost $12 billion, according to cost estimates from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) .
As if it weren’t bad enough, Democrats have pegged their tax increase to inflation. As inflation increases, so will the level of tax.” – Americans for Tax Reform
When push comes to shove, Senate Democrats turned their backs on hard-working American families. Now, vulnerable Senate Democrats Maggie Hassan, Raphael Warnock, Michael Bennet, Catherine Cortez Masto, Patty Murray and Mark Kelly, looking to keep their position in Washington will have to explain to their voters why they chose to vote for a tax hike on gasoline when American families can least afford it.
