Washington, D.C. – Tomorrow, Joe Biden will sign into law a $2.5 trillion increase in the federal debt limit. The federal debt currently stands at $28.9 trillion, which approximates to $287,859 per American household.
As Democrats debate ramming through a tax-and-spend package that would increase the debt by over $3 trillion dollars, piling more debt on American families and future generations.
Meanwhile, back in the real world, prices are soaring with inflation hitting a 40-year high. Increasing the debt limit on a party-line vote while pushing for spending that will surely exacerbate inflation, raise taxes on the middle class, and drive our nation deeper into debt is irresponsible governance at its worst.
Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “Americans’ worst fears about a Democrat-controlled government are becoming a reality. Out-of-control spending, rampant inflation, higher taxes, and drowning debt have become Senate Democrats’ governing philosophy. Back in the real world, hardworking Americans are dealing with the repercussions of their irresponsibility. As polling has shown, the further Democrats continue down this path, the worse their chances look in 2022.”
