As retread Ted Strickland longs for Washington – the city home to his "dream" lobbyist job, Ohioans won’t forget the gridlock and partisanship he brought to Columbus.
Among the many failures of his tenure, Strickland threatened to shut down the government in 2009.
Ohioans will favor those who make Washington look more like Ohio, instead of a failed governor who made Columbus look more like Washington.
BACKGROUND:
Strickland Threatened Ohio Shutdown
“Hope for a quick resolution to the state budget standoff dimmed yesterday when Gov. Ted Strickland cranked up the rhetoric, even holding out the possibility of shutting down state government.” (Columbus Dispatch, 7/7/09)
STRICKLAND: "While I will reluctantly sign a temporary budget (Tuesday) if necessary, I have serious concerns about signing a third” (Columbus Dispatch, 7/7/09)
Ohio Administrative Services Discussed Shutdown Possibility “After what the governor had to say today, there are folks in policy shops figuring out what that is going to mean,” said Ron Sylvester, spokesman for the Department of Administrative Services. “If you don’t have a full budget or an interim budget, there is going to be some part of government that is going to shut down.” (Columbus Dispatch, 7/7/09)
Strickland Demanded Controversial Slot Machine Plan
“…Strickland included a provision to the budget allowing slot machines at Ohio’s racetracks, which Republicans in the state Senate didn’t approve of without a voter referendum…” (Real Clear Politics, 9/21/15)
“Strickland has offered a framework… adding electronic slot machines at Ohio’s seven horse-racing tracks.” (Columbus Dispatch, 7/7/09)
