On what will be the defining national security issue for years to come, Senator Rob Portman stands with the American people and the growing bipartisan coalition – which includes Democrat leader-in-waiting Chuck Schumer, in opposing this deal.
Unsurprisingly, Ted Strickland stands with the ultra-liberal lobbying arm he used to run.
BACKGROUND:
"Ted Strickland supports Iran nuclear deal" – "Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland said if he were in the U.S. Senate, he would support the proposed nuclear deal with Iran." (Columbus Dispatch, 8/19/15)
"Portman will vote against Iranian nuclear deal" – "The agreement falls far short of our own stated goals and that of the international community. This is another example of another red-line the Administration has drawn but failed to honor." (Columbus Dispatch, 8/10/15)
CAP on Iran Deal: “The Iran agreement is a historic achievement that rallies the full weight of the major global powers to shut off Iran’s pathway to a nuclear weapon for ten years or more. Few votes in Congress will be as consequential as the one on the Iran nuclear agreement. This agreement represents the best chance to make sure Iran never obtains a weapon and the best chance for Congress to support American diplomacy—without taking any options off the table for this or future presidents. The deal deserves Congressional support. Opponents of the deal have been scathing in their critique. While there are aspects of the deal that merit close review, many of these attacks just don’t stand up to scrutiny.” (6 Biggest Myths about the Iran Nuclear Deal, CAP, July 29, 2015)
Senator Schumer on Iran Deal: "I will vote to disapprove the agreement, not because I believe war is a viable or desirable option, nor to challenge the path of diplomacy. It is because I believe Iran will not change, and under this agreement it will be able to achieve its dual goals of eliminating sanctions while ultimately retaining its nuclear and non-nuclear power. Better to keep U.S. sanctions in place, strengthen them, enforce secondary sanctions on other nations, and pursue the hard-trodden path of diplomacy once more, difficult as it may be. For all of these reasons, I believe the vote to disapprove is the right one." (My Position on the Iran Deal, Chuck Schumer, 8/7/15)
"Center for American Progress, group tied to Obama, under fire from Israel advocates" – "The Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank closely aligned with the White House, is embroiled in a dispute with several Jewish organizations over charges that some center staffers have publicly used language that could be construed as anti-Israel or even anti-Semitic." (Washington Post, 1/19/12)
