Washington, D.C. – Well, the battle to replace New Hampshire on the primary calendar has begun as expected, and Maggie Hassan reacted as everyone expected her to as well – by pretending she cares about protecting the primary when she does not.
Just last year, she co-sponsored and breathlessly championed S. 1, the “Corrupt Politicians’ Act” which would place the power of federal elections in the hands of Washington politicians instead of local leaders.
But don’t take our word for it, just recall the words of former Democrat Secretary of State Bill Gardner who held the position for 40 years: “…I’ve made the statement that it could put the New Hampshire primary in a perilous position and I stand by that statement.”
Despite Gardner’s unparalleled expertise in New Hampshire election law, Hassan didn’t speak to him once to discuss S.1 or any other voting rights bill.
Whether it’s drilling for more oil, building a wall, or defending the #FITN primary, there is a strong election year trend of Hassan voting one way and then saying the exact opposite.
Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “Maggie Hassan is once again trying to muddy the waters of her voting record by saying she believes the opposite of what she has supported. It’s absolutely bonkers. If New Hampshire loses its First In The Nation primary, Hassan will be chief among those responsible for its demise.”
