Washington, D.C. – We weren’t sure which Tim Ryan we would get tonight. He follows wherever the political winds are blowing, and as a 20-year career politician, Tim Ryan’s been all over the map on almost every issue. So, it’s kind of like he’s debating himself.

This year, Tim Ryan sent a letter demanding President Biden keep China tariffs in place. The next day, Ryan told people to “see [his] record.” Not his smartest move. His record shows that he badmouthed these same China tariffs when President Trump was in charge.
- On June 2, 2019, Ryan criticized Trump’s tariff strategy saying the President did not have a “big strategy.”
- During the 2020 Democratic Primary, Ryan called Trump’s tariffs “abominable” and said they should be “revised immediately.”
- In September 2019, Ryan called the way Trump had imposed tariffs “nonsensical.”
- Ryan said President Trump’s tariffs on China cost American farmers, manufacturers and working families billions of dollars.
