Senator Sherrod Brown is joining with the far left of his party to push a new bill more than doubling the federal minimum wage.
The list of cosponsors is a who’s who of extreme liberals, including Massachusetts radical Elizabeth Warren and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, in addition to Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown. But the idea of a $15 minimum wage divides even Democrats. Prominent liberals, including failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, have rejected such an extreme measure, and liberal economists warn that such a drastic increase could be counterproductive and cost jobs.
“This is just the latest example of Senator Sherrod Brown choosing Washington liberals over Ohio voters,” said NRSC Spokesman Bob Salera. “Instead of fighting for Ohioans, Senator Brown is pushing a radical liberal agenda that would cost jobs and hurt Ohio’s economy.”
