Yes, the same President Obama whose state department “held cash until Iran freed prisoners.”
In an appeal this morning, President Obama pleaded for Democrats to chip in and help “his friend,” Ted Strickland raise money for his flailing Senate bid.
Retread Ted’s fundraising has been one of many weak points in the race so far.
Reports have detailed that Strickland “has surprisingly struggled to raise money” and that his campaign has an “anemic fundraising pace.” With $3.7 million cash on hand, Strickland’s embarrassing fundraising reports are very far behind the $20 million he said he would need to be competitive.
The fundraising plea from Obama also follows Strickland’s inability to shore up support among voters in coalitions that generally lean Democratic, as many of these groups have stated they now support Rob Portman. Over the last several weeks, Rob Portman has announced the support of the Ohio Conference of Teamsters, the Fraternal Order of Police of Ohio, the United Mine Workers of America, Local 18 of the International Union of Operating Engineers, as well as the Cuyahoga County chapter of Black Lives Matter.
