Washington, D.C. – Vulnerable Senate Democrats think they can fool the American people. Hours after voting against an amendment to prevent higher taxes on American energy, Maggie Hassan proposed the exact same amendment that she had just voted against. The only problem is that she knew her amendment wouldn’t pass.
Vulnerable Senate Democrats think voters are stupid. Their theatrics in the Senate are an insult to Americans who are struggling to fill up their gas tanks. If they truly wanted to strike Democrats’ reckless tax hike from the bill, they could have.
The bottom line is that Maggie Hassan, Catherine Cortez Masto, Mark Kelly, Raphael Warnock, Patty Murray and Michael Bennet voted to increase taxes on American energy. Their deceitful legislative gymnastics won’t change the fact that they sided with Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer over Americans who are struggling to afford gas.
