Washington, D.C. – On Monday, President Biden said “no serious economist” believes “unchecked inflation” is likely. Of course, that isn’t true.

Today, the Washington Post profiled the struggle small businesses, especially in the restaurant industry, are having with inflation.

“It’d be foolish for me to believe we’ve seen the worst of it,” said a North Dallas restaurant owner Mark Maguire who had to rewrite his menu twice to account for the higher cost of food and described the trouble he’s had attracting workers.

At the core of the inflation debacle are economically indefensible policies, such as continued enhanced unemployment payments, that are hurting small businesses and stunting the economic recovery.  It is a common story being told from coast to coast.

And don’t let Democrats tell you it is a wage issue. Check out this tidbit from the piece:

About three-quarters of restaurants surveyed in June said labor recruitment was their top problem, up from just 7 percent in January, according to Hudson Riehle, a senior vice president with the National Restaurant Association.”

But you’re right, Joe, the “serious economists” you speak to don’t feel such pain from their Manhattan or Washington offices.

Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “The Biden economy is a disaster, continuing to cause unnecessary pain for small businesses. Paying people more to be unemployed rather than being employed while flooding the economy with government cash is a recipe for disaster and is exacerbating out-of-control inflation.  It’s clear that the ‘serious economists’ that the President listens to are clueless, and it seems that Republicans are the only ones speaking directly to the concerns of working Americans. For many, 2022 can’t come fast enough.”
